Hormones Wellness

What Is a Hormone Wellness Assessment?

A Hormone Wellness assessment evaluates health factors related to hormonal function. It considers the individual’s medical history, current concerns, lifestyle, sleep patterns, stress levels and personal health goals.

Depending on the individual, a physician may recommend blood tests or other appropriate assessments. These may include thyroid hormones, sex hormones, adrenal hormones or pituitary hormones. The tests selected will vary according to age, sex, symptoms, medical history and the physician’s clinical judgement. Not everyone needs to be tested for every hormone.

Who May Be Suitable for This Assessment?

A Hormone Wellness assessment may be suitable for individuals who:

  • Wish to evaluate hormone-related health changes at different stages of life
  • Frequently feel fatigued, get insufficient sleep or have irregular sleep patterns
  • Notice changes in weight, mood or energy levels
  • Experience changes in their menstrual cycle or are approaching or going through menopause
  • Notice changes in sexual desire or sexual function
  • Wish to plan long-term health care under a physician’s assessment

These changes can be associated with many factors and do not necessarily indicate a hormonal disorder. The suitability of testing should therefore be determined based on each individual’s medical history and health assessment.

Before the Assessment

Please inform the physician about any underlying medical conditions, previous surgery, pregnancy or breastfeeding, as well as any medications, vitamins, supplements, contraceptives or hormone products currently being used.

Certain medications and health products may affect test results. Do not stop taking prescribed medication unless advised to do so by a physician.

Preparation depends on the specific tests ordered. Some tests do not require fasting, while others may need to be performed after fasting or at a particular time of day because certain hormone levels naturally fluctuate. Women should also provide the date of their most recent menstrual period, as some hormone levels vary throughout the menstrual cycle.

After the Test and Ongoing Care

After a blood test, most individuals can resume their usual daily activities unless otherwise advised. Apply pressure to the puncture site until the bleeding stops and observe for unusual swelling, redness or continued bleeding.

Once the results are available, the physician will interpret them in relation to factors such as age, sex, symptoms, sample collection time, current medications and menstrual cycle stage. In some cases, repeat testing or additional assessments may be recommended before developing a care plan, as hormone levels can change over time and according to the body’s condition.

Ongoing care may include recommendations related to sleep, nutrition, physical activity, stress management or other approaches considered appropriate by the physician.

Important Information

A Hormone Wellness assessment forms part of an overall health evaluation. Test results alone cannot be used to diagnose a medical condition, and the assessment does not guarantee that hormone levels can be “balanced” or that specific symptoms will improve.
