Dermal Filler Treatment
Dermal fillers, particularly those made from hyaluronic acid, contain a substance that occurs naturally in the body and helps retain moisture within the skin. They are injected beneath the skin to restore volume, soften the appearance of facial lines such as nasolabial folds and tear troughs, and enhance facial contours in areas such as the cheeks, lips, chin, and nose.
Hyaluronic acid fillers may also be used to improve skin hydration and radiance in areas such as the face, neck, and backs of the hands. These fillers are temporary and generally last between approximately 6 months and 2 years, depending on the type of filler used, the injection area, and individual factors.
For natural-looking results and appropriate safety, the treatment should be planned and performed by a qualified doctor following an individual facial assessment..jpg)
Contraindications for Hyaluronic Acid Filler Injections
Hyaluronic acid filler injections may not be suitable for:
- Individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions
- Individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding
Suitability should be assessed by a doctor before treatment.
Preparation Before Hyaluronic Acid Filler Injections
- You may eat and drink normally before the procedure.
- Inform the doctor about any underlying medical conditions, current illnesses, medication allergies, or other allergies.
- Inform the doctor if you are taking anticoagulants, blood-thinning medication, or certain pain relievers such as aspirin, as these may increase the risk of bruising or prolonged bleeding. Do not stop any prescribed medication without consulting the prescribing doctor.
- Certain supplements, such as vitamin E, ginseng, and ginkgo biloba, may also increase the risk of bruising. Consult the doctor before temporarily stopping any supplements.
- Inform the doctor if you have a history of cold sores or herpes around the lips.
- A topical anaesthetic may be applied to the treatment area for approximately 45 minutes before the procedure. The injection process generally takes around 30–60 minutes, depending on the amount used and the areas treated.
- Inform the doctor immediately if you experience significant pain during the injection.
Aftercare Following Filler Injections
- Avoid massaging, rubbing, or applying strong pressure to the treated area. Facial treatments and laser procedures on the injected area should generally be avoided for at least two weeks or as advised by the doctor.
- For areas such as the chin, avoid pressure or impact, including sleeping face down or resting the chin on your hand.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages on the day of treatment.
- Avoid strenuous exercise and exposure to excessive heat, including hot spas and saunas, for approximately one week.
- Maintain adequate hydration unless otherwise advised for your health condition.
- Mild swelling, bruising, tenderness, or unevenness may occur temporarily after treatment. Do not massage any lumps unless instructed by the doctor. Consult the clinic if the area does not improve within one to two days or causes concern.
- Seek medical attention promptly if you experience severe or increasing pain, unusual skin discoloration, marked swelling, visual disturbances, or other unexpected symptoms.
Suitability, recovery, and results may vary between individuals. Follow the doctor’s specific instructions after treatment.
